Background
I am an independent consultant specialising in strategic analysis. I went freelance in 2002 after 17 years in commercial, business development and regulation roles, initially with BP and then Yorkshire Electricity.Consultancy assignments typically involve the interpretation of complex environments and supporting the creation of appropriate action plans. Clients have included blue chip companies, SMEs and government agencies. I have particular interests in the balance between regulation and free markets, in effective decision making and in the management of uncertainty.
I am co-author of the Tomorrow's Company Restoring Trust report, which studied the effectiveness of the UK investment system. I have also co-authored a paper that uses perspectives from complexity science to interpret the performance of investment managers and developed a methodology for assessing the financial durability of companies.
I am married to Claire and have two children, James (15) and Naomi (13). I play guitar better than I play cricket!
